“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for.”
– Georgia O'Keeffe
Growing up in Maine, I found myself fascinated with the beauty of our natural world. I can remember spending much of my time studying the plants and flowers that grew in my parents yard. I sketched with pencil, ink pens, and applied watercolor paints. I loved how the petals of a flower would curve and flow and how the plants would arch with a graceful curve. The colors looked at first simple, but with more discovery they were composed of layers of filtered colors that created the whole. I continue this passion for the arts today and many of my floral paintings are sensuous close-ups of flowers that I had grown in my own gardens. I have continued to focus on the flowing lines, curving shapes, and layered colors that were my inspiration as a child.
Upon moving to Tucson, I became engulfed by the western beauty and culture. My “Tucson artistic voice” is ever growing and changing. I have become fascinated and deeply inspired by the rich colors and movement as depicted in the paintings: “Dance at Dusk” (2015) and “Bella Dama” (2016). My recent work is a combination of the beautiful Mexican culture, Talavera artistry, and one of my greatest loves to paint; rabbits. My paintings are rich in color, symbolism, and always intensely from the heart.
